The prime minister, in a post on X, said India stands in solidarity with the people of Canada during the “moment of profound grief”.

“Deeply shocked by the horrendous shooting in Canada. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands in solidarity with the people of Canada in this moment of profound grief,” the post read.

According to a release by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), they found seven people dead, including a suspect who appeared to have died of a “self-inflicted injury.” An eighth person died while being transported to a hospital, and two more were found dead at a home the authorities believe was connected to the attack.

Over 25 people are injured, including two who were airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, after the shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, the RCMP said.

Following the incident, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney voiced devastation over the horrific shootings in the country where school shooting are rare.

“I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence,” Mr. Carney said in a post on X.

In a statement, the municipality of Tumbler Ridge said: “There are no words sufficient for the heartbreak our community is experiencing tonight.”
